About Energy Healing

Just like you don’t need to understand the law of gravity to drop something or fall down, you don’t need to fully understand the concept of energy healing before you receive a treatment.  We all have a physical body and we also have an energy body.  It extends several inches outward, you may have heard it called an aura or an electromagnetic field.  Our brain activity, heartbeat and pulse all create a type of electricity.  Add that with our thoughts and  it  creates our energy field.
Our environment greatly affects this, both physically and emotionally in both positive and negative ways.
While teaching a class I saw a flash of black spikey energy above a woman’s head  in her aura.  I immediately asked her if she had been mad earlier that day.  She responded with an emphatic yes and she added “I bit the head off of everybody that came into my office today”.  She of course was curious why I had asked, so I explained how I saw that black spikey energy coming out of her head and into her energy field.  When our energy field is working properly and is healthy it it is always moving and clearing.   This perfectly explains why it feels so good to be near some people.  Their energy field is filled with really good loving energy.

What is a Chakra / Energy Meridian?

The Chakras are the ancient Indian concept of our body’s primary energy centers and are very similar to the ancient Chinese concept. The word chakra translates literally to wheel and is thought to be one of seven spinning centers of energy found in our bodies. Our chakras, based on their location, are connected to key endocrine glands and areas of nervous system function throughout the body, much like the Chinese meridians.
The seven Chakras are located in alignment from the top of our head, to the base of our spine and, when functioning properly , allow for a steady flow of energy throughout the body.  Much like the Chinese yin-yang balance of Qi, the energy in our chakras must be properly balanced as to not have an overabundance of energy in one chakra and a deficiency in another. Chakras also have the ability to open and close, allowing for the outward and inward flow of energy. Our chakras tend to close down when we experience negativity, sadness and anger. In order to open up chakras we use breathing techniques, meditation and healing energy to eliminate negativity and open up to the flow of positive energy.
Qi refers to the natural and essential energy of livelihood. This energy flows through multiple pathways of the body called meridians. Each meridian regulates a particular organ along the nervous system, and all are interconnected. Good health depends on the circulation and balance of energy throughout the entire meridian system.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki is based on the idea of the flowing life force known in Japanese as ki.   The word “ki” refers to the energy that flows through everything that is alive, including plants, animals, and human beings—because of this, ki is also often called “life force energy,”
Reiki is a Japanese technique that is used to heal physical and mental trauma, and to support mental clarity and spiritual well-being. In Japanese, the word “rei” refers to a higher intelligence that permeates all living and nonliving entities and guides the inherent functioning and is known as qi or chi in other languages. The combination of these two words is what defines reiki as “guided life-force energy.”
The practice of Reiki was developed to give people a system to move and heal old stuck energy that can show itself as pain or chronic physical issues if left untreated and to be conscious and in charge of their own well-being.   It is based on this concept of the unseen life force that flows between us that can be channeled and used for beneficial means.  Reiki treatments are a  wonderful tool for stress and anxiety relief.
To administer Reiki, a practitioner after being attuned to it, channels life force energy through his or her hands.  The energy begins to flow through the affected parts of the subject’s energy field and into the body where negative thoughts and feelings are stored. It clears and charges them with positive energy.  The negative energy—such as stress, anxiety, physical pain, sadness, confusion, etc.— loosens and moves out of the physical body and opens the energy pathways.
Some people enjoy the energy flow so much they feel called to learn how to channel this energy, even if they do not desire to become practitioners. They use it in their homes, at work on their plants, animals, food and children.
We all go through experiences in our lives that may cause us physical or emotional harm. This can be from past relationships, job situations, family situations, etc. These experiences may create heavy energy that gets stuck in the energy body. In spite of our best efforts to change or think differently, we still carry around the energy of those experiences and it can make change difficult.  When the body’s natural energy flow is blocked carrying this heavy energy it may delay the healing process.  When this occurs a chakra or energy meridian may need to be cleaned so the meridian can once again have free flowing energy.

What is Soul Healing?

Sometimes we have traumatic events in our lives that act as a shattering or a breaking off of our soul, sometimes this can show itself as depression, never feeling fully present or feeling fearful or stuck and not knowing why. If you could imagine that your soul is a mirror or a piece of glass and it has had a big trauma, a piece of that soul can be left with that traumatic event or what/whoever may have been a part of that event. Bringing all parts of your being back to a fully whole and cleared state can bring incredible change in ones life. This kind of energy treatment is called soul retrieval, it involves the practitioner finding and clearing those shattered parts and re integrating the energy.

While soul healing integrates body, mind and soul, it is not designed to be a substitute for psychotherapy. Clients who have significant mental health diagnosis, severe and unresolved childhood trauma, abuse, and neglect, active symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or limited ability to function effectively in the world would benefit more from in-person, long-term somatic psychotherapy with a licensed mental health professional.

What is Hypnotherapy?

The brain consciously and subconsciously is our operating system, so it is important that all of our programming is operating in sync.
Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy used to reprogram the subconscious mind. When under hypnosis, you put your mind and body into a heightened state of learning, making you more susceptible to suggestions for self-improvement or behavior modification. The goal is to put the subconscious and conscious mind in harmony, which in turn helps give you greater control over your behavior and emotions.
Think of the subconscious mind the hard drive of the brain.  The conscious mind can hold present thoughts or awareness of seven to nine bits of information at a time.  The rest is placed back into storage(the subconscious) part of the brain which is where we have our filters of how we view the world through our past experiences and beliefs.
The subconscious brain is fully formed by the age of seven, so often we have fears or beliefs from a time in our lives when we may have felt small or weak or afraid but also a time of our lives when we believed everything our parents told us as truth , when in fact we were hearing information through our parents filters.
Some have found past life regression to be a great tool for pain relief or unexplained issues.  Others enjoy it as a fun exploration of their Subconscious/Cell memory.
Hypnosis for weight loss or  to quit addictive behaviors like smoking or drinking, is how most people think of hypnosis. While people do often seek hypnosis therapy for these reasons, there are other reasons too. People may see a hypnotherapist before and during childbirth, to increase self-esteem or as stress relief. It can also be used to deal with chronic pain (the brain has the ability to make much more powerful pain relief chemicals than one could ever buy and there are some really good pain relief tools working with hypnosis, the brain, insomnia, anxiety, or treat irritable bowel syndrome.
During your initial  session, you will begin by telling the therapist about your goals and issues. You will then work together to come up with a treatment plan. Once you enter a state of hypnosis, your body will feel calm and relaxed, even as you enter a state of increased awareness, similar to the way you might feel when meditating. Your therapist will speak to you in a calm and gently assertive voice, and place the suggestions you agreed to in your treatment plan into your subconscious mind.

How does Sound Therapy work?

Another therapy that opens channels and moves out old stuck energy is sound and vibration.  Sound and music have been used since ancient times for healing and transformation.
The basic principle of sound healing is that everything is in a state of vibration, including our organs, bones, tissues, etc. If these parts of the body become imbalanced they may be healed through projecting the correct frequencies back into the body. This works for imbalances and over-or-under activity in the chakras and the energy fields, muscles, bones, glandular system and muscle structure.  When we do this it enables and nudges the body to kick in its own incredible  healing system.  It is no different than our bodies ability to heal a small cut.  The body is perfectly designed to heal itself.  We certainly do not have to think about it to begin a wound’s healing or  tell the body to send increased cells to coagulate and others to fight off bacteria.  Our bodies are an amazing miracle if one really sits down to think about it and with focused intention and attention we can assist and speed up the process.
Sound Therapy is effective in not only achieving a state of relaxation but it also has a way of moving through blockages in the body. Sound Therapy has been known to help treat such conditions as stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, depression, sleep disorders, pain and autism.
Vibracoustic Therapy is composed of pure harmonic low sound frequencies which helps reduce pain, stress,  insomnia & anxiety.  In addition, it helps boost vitality, increase life quality, gives body-mind balance & clarity.
Remember the sensation you feel when you wake up after a good quality night sleep? Vibracoustic therapy acts the same way: it fine tunes, reorganizes and optimizes our energy.  During a session, you feel soothing gentle harmonic low sound waves, rinsing your body-mind from within as an inner body massage to organs, tissues and cells. After a session, you feel recharged with energy, calm, with sharp senses, positive, attentive and with tolerance to the people around you.
The Process of sound therapy includes selecting a specific frequency in the range between 30 Hz -120 Hz that is transmitted into a furniture wellness platform. (A vibracoustic Sound Therapy Table in our case).
It has transducers (little bass speakers) which convert the frequencies into gentle vibrations  that  multiple body systems (such as: nervous, skeletal, muscular, circulatory).
We also have vibracoustic chakra healing sessions geared to sound vibrating each specific chakra, using symphonies that have the correct frequencies for each individual chakra.
Mary has worked in hospice with patients and specifically patients with cancer and has had wonderful results with pain relief  and also with giving specific instructions to the patient’s brain so they have a way to feel more empowered using hypnotic tools. One of which is a hypnotically placed Guided visualization telling the body what you want it to do.  My theory is if you are in bed you might as well have something to do.
Always act as if, and the brain will follow and give the body more instructions and flood the brain with healing chemistry.

What techniques are used in Sound Therapy?

Sound therapists  make music in a variety of ways to promote healing. Here are some common techniques.
Classical Music
Classical music has been show to increase the rate of development of synaptic connections in young children’s minds. It also helps fuel creativity and enhance joy in adults. Classical music can even help address physical ailments like high blood pressure and muscle tension.
Humming not only lifts your spirits, it clears your head. According to a study conducted by Swedish researcher, and published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, humming may actually help keep your sinuses clear and healthy.  Especially doing Mindful humming.
Singing Bowls- Whether metal or quartz crystal, a singing bowl sings when you run a felt-tipped mallet around its edge. Along with rhythms produced by striking the edge of the bowl, the vibrations and tones slow down breathing, brain waves and heart rates, producing a deep sense of calm and well-being.
Tuning Forks
Originally used to tune musical instruments to the proper pitch, tuning forks have long been used by orthopedists to detect stress fractures in large bones. Now, sound therapists use the vibrations of tuning forks to increase the amount of energy in parts of the body they are trying to heal or energize. These good vibes can support relaxation, balance our nervous systems and increase physical energy.
“Tuning forks are precise instruments that have the ability to change our inner tuning by creating a resonance throughout our mind, emotions, and body. They do this by creating a vortex of sound that leads us into still point, which is a moment where everything seems to stop and we can retune ourselves. Our nervous system, like the string of a musical instrument, vibrates to the sound of tuning forks.”
Yogic Chanting
Yogic Chanting and “Om”ing. Chanting, the first step to meditation, is also a means of maintaining health and well-being.  Side benefit, it gets us out of our heads when we need to de-stress.  Research shows that chanting can stabilize heart rate, lower blood pressure, improve circulation, produce endorphins and aid the process of metabolism. Chanting can also help the mind focus . For example, repeating the syllable “om,” considered one of the most important mantras in yoga, is said to foster  deep mental clarity and promote a sense of connectedness with a higher energy.
There have been studies done on sound-frequency-vibration in hospitals on post surgery patients.  The findings were that the patient healed much more quickly when the frequency of that particular body part was used in their room.
That sound is called resonance, the frequency at which an object naturally vibrates. Each part of our bodies has its own natural resonance, and vibrational medicine is based on the idea that disease is a result of those natural resonances getting out of tune – whether due to stress, illness or environmental factors.
As opposed to the highly focused and fast vibrations used in ultrasound (a technology already employed in hospitals to break up kidney stones and check on the health of fetuses, for example), sound therapy works more gently – but just as powerfully – to return the body’s own vibrations to their natural states.

What is Energy Medicine?

There are many commonalities between these different methods of energy healing and it makes sense that they are all so similar.  Though these time-tested traditions vary between modalities, they all work with the flow of energy throughout our bodies and its importance in our health and well being.
*Energy healing is a complementary modality that should never exclude any Western medicine you may be taking/doing. It could be viewed as symbiotic, working together and keeping all parts of you well balanced and healthy.

How can I keep the energy flowing?

You can maintain your energetic health at home.
Just as you shower and brush your teeth every day, energetic cleansing is also a daily commitment. Once you visit with an energy healer, keep the good vibes flowing by taking a bath in Epsom or pink Himalayan salts for 20 minutes whenever you start to feel the heaviness creeping back into your body.
One of the other things you can do to keep your energy flowing with your body and mind feeling good is to be fully present.  If you have a feeling or emotion, allow yourself to fully feel it and express it in healthy ways.  This can sometimes mean a good cry or telling someone how they made you feel by their voice or action.  If that action that bothered you continues to occur, it can be hard on you, giving feelings of defeat or unworthiness.   If that occurs, you should attempt to  make a plan with that person so it doesn’t continue to happen.
